Cross-Taxon Congruence of Taxonomic and Functional Beta-Diversity Facets Across Spatial and Temporal Scales

چکیده

An intensively debated issue in ecology is whether the variations biodiversity patterns of different biological groups are congruent space and time. In addition, ecologists have recognized necessity accounting for both taxonomic functional facets when analysing spatial temporal congruence patterns. This study aimed to determine how cross-taxon beta diversity varies across time, using data from four floodplains at a continental scale. Our general hypothesis was that between aquatic groups, either or functional, would decrease with “between-group” distance. Also, we examined varied scales by focusing on relationships differ among Brazilian dry/wet periods. comprised information eight largest river-floodplain systems, assessed Procrustes analysis. results show detailed analyses can reveal congruence, partially support strength negatively related between-group

Spatial and temporal scales of aquatic bacterial beta diversity

Understanding characteristic variation in aquatic bacterial community composition (BCC) across space and time can inform us about processes driving community assembly and the ability of bacterial communities to respond to perturbations. In this study, we synthesize BCC data from north temperate lakes to evaluate our current understanding of how BCC varies across multiple scales in time and spac...

Optimal measurement of visual motion across spatial and temporal scales

Sensory systems use limited resources to mediate the perception of a great variety of objects and events. Here a normative framework is presented for exploring how the problem of efficient allocation of resources can be solved in visual perception. Starting with a basic property of every measurement, captured by Gabor’s uncertainty relation about the location and frequency content of signals, p...

Phylogenetic congruence of lichenised fungi and algae is affected by spatial scale and taxonomic diversity

The role of species' interactions in structuring biological communities remains unclear. Mutualistic symbioses, involving close positive interactions between two distinct organismal lineages, provide an excellent means to explore the roles of both evolutionary and ecological processes in determining how positive interactions affect community structure. In this study, we investigate patterns of ...

Spatial mismatch and congruence between taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity: the need for integrative conservation strategies in a changing world.

Functional and phylogenetic diversity are increasingly quantified in various fields of ecology and conservation biology. The need to maintain diversity turnover among sites, so-called beta-diversity, has also been raised in theoretical and applied ecology. In this study, we propose the first comprehensive framework for the large-scale mapping of taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity ...

Temporal and Spatial Scales

H uman activities have degraded substantial portions of the nation’s ecological resources, including physical and biological aquatic systems. The effects are continuing and cumulative, and few high-quality aquatic ecosystems remain in the United States. Concern about these diminishing resources has resulted in numerous restoration programs. Some are well conceived and address complex ecosystem ...
